Scott Neighbors returned to his hometown when he joined the staff of FBC Skiatook in June of 2003. A 1974 graduate of Skiatook High, Scott has spent literally all of his adult years in the ministry. For almost 30 years his primary service was youth ministry, but always in combination with something else like education, music, media, etc. Scott currently coordinates the music, education and administrative ministries of the church here in Skiatook. In his early ministry he served churches in Barnsdall, Miami, Ramona, Claremore, Ada, Shawnee and Guthrie. From 1983-2003 he served on the staff of FBC Pryor, where he built a youth ministry that averaged 150+ in Sunday School and regularly took over 200 to summer camps. It was also in Pryor that Scott developed his love for community service, serving as president of the local board of education and the Chamber of Commerce, and a founding member of the local Optimists Club. He has continued that role in Skiatook, serving as the president of the Chamber of Commerce for 8 years, director of the annual Pioneer Day Celebration and serves on several other community committees and boards. From 1998-2002 he served on the BGCO Board of Directors and from 2007-11 and 2013-2016 he has served as a trustee, vice-chairman and treasurer of the board of Oklahoma Baptist University. He was also the President of the Singing Churchmen of Oklahoma (2014-15) and has traveled with them to Australia (2003), Armenia & Israel (2008) and to the Winter Olympics in Sochi Russia (2014).
Scott and his wife of 38 years, Carol, have one daughter and son-in-law, Megan & Brian Poole of Columbia City, OR, and two grandsons, Gabe (7) and Silas (10), who lovingly call them “Grammy & That Man.” Carol is a piano teacher by trade and serves the church as a Preschool teacher and keyboardist with the praise ensemble.
